Nice big user avatars

Previously the user avatars were limited to a 50x50 pixels size, as much larger and they would break out of the template in various ways to very ugly effect. But this has now been fixed after a lot of messing around with the site's CSS, so that avatars can now be up to 100x100 pixels. This is much, much nicer, with the comments section modified to display this to beautiful effect. So to update your avatar, just select "My account" in the main menu, and the "Edit" button on your Profile Page. This joins the many other subtle improvements to the site, which hopefully you notice.

November channel stats uploaded.

This is a bit late I know, but better late than never. November was a bit of a return to earth, with 77,000 lines of chat, so more in line with September. Warren's psychiatrist would probably know the reason for this.

User Profile Page - Yet another new site feature!

If you so desire, you can use your user profile page to list things about yourself you don't mind being publicly known. A bit like myspace only in a much less ugly format.

Devil's Dictionary - Another new site feature!

Ever had a politically incorrect or contrarian viewpoint? Here is the perfect way to express it, through the Devil's Dictionary. A site user generated index of cynical word definitions not usually openly stated, if you want to keep your job that is.

IRC Quotes - New site feature!

Ever since day one this channel has regularly had many golden lines from the members, which after being briefly enjoyed, then sadly disappear forever into the logs. But no more! Now if you see anything particularly wise, or hilarious, you can now add it to the site to be preserved for posterity. Reminisce with your grandchildren about the wonderful days of #politicaldebate. Quotes are randomly displayed in the left hand sidebar with each page refresh. Also you can view the entire list of accumulated quotes just by selecting "IRC Quotes" in the main navigation menu on the left.

Formal channel rules, now imposed with the shiniest of jackboots.

In order to address a growing problem with the channel, stern measures have now been adopted to ensure that #politicaldebate remains a pleasant and happy place to be. Please read the new rules.

October channel stats uploaded.

Responding to overwhelming popular demand (or harassment) I have now uploaded the October channel stats, and what a month it was! October broke yet another record, after September itself was a record breaking month. In October we enjoyed 92,681 lines of discussion, beating September's 75,900 lines by a mile. It is also worth nothing that #politicaldebate itself is creeping ever upwards in austnet's popularity rankings, we have now secured a permanent place in the top 20, and sometimes almost creeping into the top 10.

Well done!

We had to ban free speech in order to save it.

Of late I have noticed an increasing negativity and hostility in the channel, of the sort where it is one-dimensional, repetitive, and utterly tedious. One can only have so much patience with generic, witless drivel. This is particularly serious when it is directed at channel newcomers who are barraged with this sort of drivel from all sides for making the mistake of even entering the channel.

September channel stats uploaded.

The September channel stats have now been compiled and uploaded for your viewing pleasure. This month has been the best month in the history of the channel, with not only more discussion than ever before, but several days exceeding 3,000 lines of chat. And this is after the floodbot attack text has been culled from the logs. The enemies of free speech have totally failed in their attempts to suppress and control.

New site logo.

Strum has generously volunteered to create a new and better logo for the site. The original was a very basic thing I whipped up in Gimp while doing a dozen other things, so I'm very pleased to see it gone.

Everyone props to Strum!
