Now the Bush presidency is near its end, it has conspicuously failed to catch Osama bin Laden. Why do you think this is so?

Osama died long ago, perhaps from kidney failure, or being killed in a bombing run.

Osama is still alive, but has very well concealed himself.

Osama is still alive, and has not been found because he's really a CIA operative, or similar conspiracy theory.

Osama never existed in the first place, and is a fictional character used for western propaganda purposes.

they dont care

When Dubya said "I don't care", he was right. bin Laden is a far more powerful tool for the Republican administration, and Neocon ideology more broadly, out there, on the lose, threatening lives.
Incidentally the recent news story about Afghan girls on their way to school having acid thrown in their face? That was the CIAs main man in the 1980s Gulbuddin Hekmatyar favourite past time when he wasn't fighting Soviets.
And although having fallen out of favour with the Americans since those glorious days and the massive campaign against the Taliban, the man is still at large.

From the comics

Something I do find interesting is the nature of the enemies of the US in recent years. Their greatest external enemy is a millionaire who lives in a cave, while their greatest internal enemy is a mad scientist, Bruce Edwards Ivins.

This seems straight out of any Marvel or DC comic, as if the world has entered some sort of post-modern haze where pulp fiction is now our reality.

Does he really exist?

I am finding it pretty incredible that Bin Laden really exists. Perhaps it is the United States using his existance for their own political purposes?
For example there are logical incredulities for this theory as follows:
1) The mightiest nation in the world (e.g. militiarily, economically and politically) cannot pursue and catch one turbined muslim going from cave to cave somewhere on the Asia continent?????
2) Everytime I see Bin Laden on the news his beard is greyish one day.....and then the next it's fully black. What is he doing...dyeing his beard in the caves by the light of the kerosene lamp whilst on the run from the mightiest nation on earth....?

Modified the poll.

I have taken your suggestion aboard, and added a new option to the poll: "Osama never existed in the first place, and is a fictional character used for western propaganda purposes."

This is an idea I once entertained myself, in pravda.ru there was an article once some years back that argued exactly this proposition. Certainly there is the fairly reasonable position that Al Qaeda is not a real organisation, but a disparate array of entirely separate entities pursuing goals that have little in common besides a resistance to western hegemony.

Osam Bin Laden

Well Tigger...I'd like to be objective as possible about this. I dislike conspiracy theories simply because they tend to mask, as well, perhaps that "real" conspiracy which may be real...but would be denounced with the majority. This is something akin to the following: Say I want to misrepresent or even blatantly lie on an issue to you. I just simply tell you a whole bunch of "truths" which I would be able to judge that you can confirm that...they are truthful. I then "slip in" my "lie" on that issue amongst those truths.
You would instantly believe my "lie"...and do you know why? Well because the others were truths (which you confirmed)....you would then logically think that my "lie" is truthful as well. In short..if you want to lie....tell some truths "mixed" in...and you will be believed on the lie.
That's what conspiracy theories do...only the opposite. Many are fictional...but there are real conspiracy theories out there...but they are ALSO not believed with the rest. For some reason...people have not the ability to separate the two.
Back to Osama Bin Laden. I did not know what Pravda said....I only assess what I see...in a logical way...and there is yet another matter I find hard to believe. This is how the USA....with it's most sophisticated and technologically advanced and slick spy network on the planet...the CIA.....could not depose Saddam Hussein using the CIA and instead had to invade Iraq to depose him. Can you understand this?
