Of late I have noticed an increasing negativity and hostility in the channel, of the sort where it is one-dimensional, repetitive, and utterly tedious. One can only have so much patience with generic, witless drivel. This is particularly serious when it is directed at channel newcomers who are barraged with this sort of drivel from all sides for making the mistake of even entering the channel. This is why I'm actually glad that hirum isn't around much anymore, his boring, relentless, negativity directed at all and sundry is an issue for his psychiatrist to deal with, not for the channel to deal with. So on balance I would prefer to ban existing members in deference to new members. That is if I am forced to make that decision. I think the people concerned know who they are, so please lift your standards now before it requires imposition from above. |

Agreement.
I for one agree wholeheartedly with Tigger's announcement. It's all for the good of the channel!

Channel?
I apologise for my ignorance..but precisely what is "the channel"? From the gist of your announcement howeverI can deduce that some contributor on this forum was a sorta "hack poster". I find it difficult to accept this sort of contributing. My God...if you are to post..at least attempt do so with fresh ideas..new concepts. This of course may portray you as crazy at times as many people may not accept these new ideas....but isn't this better than being a hack writer?
We really must explain things better.
Hello dumbcluck, I assume you found us through the web, rather than our irc channel?
We are primarily an irc channel, and the website is a new development, you can log on to real time discussion here.
Sometime I'll get around to creating an 'About page' to explain some of the more arcane things pertaining to us.
IRC?
IRC?...what exactly does this stand for? And where else are you except through the internet...which is exactly where I found you...via Google. I just searched "Australian online debate"..and up you came. There seems to be a shortage of this type of thing here in Australia. I get a lot of American forums....but the trouble there is that one cannot discuss Australian issues..only international issues
Internet Relay Chat
Ok, not too many people seem to have heard of irc, even though it is older than the web. But like MSN or ICQ, it allows real time discussion, but not just restricted to 1 on 1 discussion like MSN, but dozens of people can be engaged in the discussion at once.
Here is a detailed explanation of what it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irc
And here is how you get onto irc, just go here: http://www.political-debate.org/node/26
Then enter your username into the box and press connect, and there you are.
Be warned though, irc is real time, so it can not only get out of hand, it can also have long stretches where absolutely nothing happens.
