The recent assassination of popular Mexican gubernatorial candidate Rodolfo Torre has proven once a lot more that the northeast Mexican state of Tamaulipas is not only a flash point in Mexico's drug war, but of great concern in the ongoing battle for U.S. border security. It was reported by Reuters that Torre – an opposition candidate representing the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) – was slain along with four of his aides in the border town of Valle Hermoso. Just prior to the holding of the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000 leading economists warned that quote "we will play.....and suffer(financially) later". Here we are 8 years after these Games were held...and those economists were spot on. New South Wales is not only knee deep....but neck deep in financial trouble. Thanks to the sport ego tripping by the previous Fahey Liberal Government in NSW in electing to, and holding the Games. I wonder what the people in NSW prefer.....a better school...hospital or....the so -called "spectacle" of the opening of the "best ever" Olympic Games in Sydney? |
