[20:39] <PrometheanStardust> If I take the train from here (Hawthorn East) to my brothers home, which is further out than Essendon - it takes about 1hr40mins by train
[20:39] <PrometheanStardust> Driving there, it took about 40 mins
[20:40] <PrometheanStardust> Or possibly even less than that
[20:40] <PrometheanStardust> on the tollway, it was incredible
[20:40] <Tigger3> how much was the toll?
[20:41] <Lamont-Cranston> and the petrol
[20:41] <PrometheanStardust> I'm not sure
[20:41] <Tigger3> probably more competitive than the train
[20:41] <PrometheanStardust> Much better than the train
[20:41] <PrometheanStardust> Felt a lot safer, got there much much faster
[20:42] <PrometheanStardust> Had the luxury of taking my dog, which is quite hard to do on a train
And now lets analyse this.
A zone 1 all-day full fare ticket is $3.70, the concession is $2.30. END is on the dole and unemployable so guess what he pays.
A train from Hawthorn direct to Flinders St is 10 minutes, seventeen minutes skipping East Richmond and going through the Loop, 18 minutes including East Richmond and going through the Loop.
A train from Flinders St direct to Essendon is 17 minutes, twenty minutes via the Loop and skipping Southern Cross.
Dogs are allowed on trains but it is advised they not be taken on during the peak hour periods, they are to be muzzled but I have never seen one on the train that was.
Taking the longest ways means a total of 38 minutes on the trains, how long he must wait in between the trains depends on the schedules and how he would plan to interchange: at Flinders St or a Loop station.
In conclusion END is a liar and Public Transportation is competitive.
*UPDATE*
[21:28] <PrometheanStardust> I shall respond with pwnage in due time, Lamont-Cranston
[21:31] <Lamont-Cranston> what pwnage? You claimed it would take an hour and 40 minutes
[21:31] <Lamont-Cranston> longest is 38 minutes
[21:32] <PrometheanStardust> Lamont-Cranston, the pwnage will come.
[21:33] <PrometheanStardust> I did say "further out than Essendon", Lamont-Cranston
[21:33] <PrometheanStardust> I will post my pwnage later tonight or possibly tommorow
[21:33] <Lamont-Cranston> what station then?
[21:34] <PrometheanStardust> I will respond to you officially when I have time, Lamont-Cranston
[21:37] <Lamont-Cranston> so END what station is it if not Essendon? Is it all the way out in Craigieburn?
[21:38] <PrometheanStardust> Lamont-Cranston, that is something that you didn't consider.
[21:39] <Lamont-Cranston> END you black dog! Answer me
[21:39] <PrometheanStardust> I will answer you in the official correspondance, so that everybody can see what a fool you have made of yourself, AGAIN
[21:39] <PrometheanStardust> correspondence*

[21:41] <Lamont-Cranston> you said Essendon, I can't be blamed for your vagaries
[21:41] <PrometheanStardust> Wrong. In fact you quoted me in your post, so you should know better.
[21:42] <PrometheanStardust> From your own post:
[21:42] <PrometheanStardust> [20:39] If I take the train from here (Hawthorn East) to my brothers home, which is further out than Essendon - it takes about 1hr40mins by train
[21:43] <Lamont-Cranston> then where to?
[21:44] <PrometheanStardust> I will answer when I answer
[21:44] <PrometheanStardust> bbl
Very well.
Lets Assume END has to go all the way to the end of the line, Craigieburn.
A train from Flinders St direct to Craigieburn would be 40 minutes, via the Loop and skipping Southern Cross would be forty-three minutes.
Taking the longest way mean a total of 61 minutes on the trains, how long he must wait in between the trains depends on the schedules and how he would plan to interchange: at Flinders St or a Loop station.
Still well short of his claimed 1hr40mins.
Further more: Flinders St Station trains on the Belgrave/Alamein/Lilydale lines arrive at platforms 1&2, Trains on the Craigieburn/Upfield/Sydenham lines arrive at platforms 4&5.
Allowing an easy walk through either of the subway tunnels or the concourse.
