Welcome to "The Astor"

My new home cinema is now complete, and tonight officially opened with a showing of David Lynch's 1984 masterpiece, "Dune".

Here are some photos of the cinema.

Yeowie helped with setting everything up, here he is directing where the speaker cable should be placed.

The screen, in viewing area a little over 3 metres wide, and 1.28 metres high, and CinemaScope ratio of course.

Yeowie makes his final inspection of the cinema, making sure everything is up to the highest standard.

Side view of screen and front speakers.

The projection area, with reclining seats.

The Xbox 360 is also plugged into the projector, through the magic of HDMI. You can also see the WD-TV Live next to the 360.

The Panasonic AE4000 1080p projector, with Sony 7.2 amplifier.

The full control tower, and admittedly a lot of untidy looking wiring.

Dune being projected in the dark, the shot here with this camera doesn't do justice to the film-like quality of the image.

I had to stand one side to take these shots, or else my head would be in the way.

Thanks to a new invention

Thanks to a new invention called gravity, it is no longer necessary to glue speakers to the floor to stop them floating away.

Very droll.

Being on the floor where is the sound projected?
They should be on stands, or high on the walls pointed down.
