Begun in 1939 by Fritz Leiber and continued intermittenly through the next 50 years, the tales of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser started out as somewhat of a reaction against the ramapaging supermen of the pulps (i.e. Conan the Barbarian) as well as the faire worlds of Dunsany, Eddison, and Tolkien.
Fafhrd and the Mousser are ordinary men, albeit highly trained, as much concerned about where their next meal is coming from as they are about stopping evil wizards.
Set in a 'low fantasy' world their tales cover action/adventure, mystery, horror - Leiber was an early admirer of Lovecraft and wrote some of first literary criticism of his work, they are more than once confronted with eldritch terrors - quests, comedy, even erotica towards the end as they wench and loot their way across Nehwon (including the Deathlands and across the Western Sea) several times over. Finally as the stories wind down, confront their increasing age and retire.
how lame.
how lame.
cool story bro
And I suppose you've read these?
Keep on trollin'.
incidentally
Book 1 is 764 pages, Book 2 is 695 pages. Thats 1459 pages in in 31 days.
Not that much.
1459 pages in 31 days is only 47 pages a day. Just this morning I read 75 pages of a Famous Five book.
