"The Tragedy of the Commons" is the theory whereby any publicly owned good will suffer deleterious overuse as anyone and everyone has access to it, and it is in the interest of the individual to exploit it as heavily as possible, as he will be the sole beneficiary of this exploitation, while the cost of the damage incurred is socialised and borne by everyone. This raises an interesting problem for Wikipedia, "the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit." |
