The overseas built trains and trams Melbourne has purchased in the past decade all range from bad to lemon. The chronic break failures of the Siemens train are particularly notable.

Now compare them with the Comeng and Hitachi model trains and the B, C, and Z class trams built by the government entity Comeng in Dandenong Melbourne. They have been in service for many years and are likely to continue to be for many years, both because of their rugged sturdiness and a need to relieve the pressure caused by the underperforming overseas private contractor models.
Or the W class trams still in operation after more than 50 years built by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board. They are also a sought after item by overseas tourist tramways.
