Primary indicator that a work is not authentic is that the performer did not do all writing, composition, arranging, and production of the song themselves, which instead was done by a team of skilled professionals. Post-modern irony however, can bring authenticity to what was otherwise inauthentic. Hence Britney Spears song "Womanizer" which is not authentic, becomes authentic when Lilly Allen does a cover of it. Also rather curious is the exception of rap music, where the rapper's primary contribution is mumbling incoherently into the microphone and the Jewish producer actually writes the music, yet the rapper is still considered authentic.
